How to turn on the Hey Siri feature on your Apple Watch: Siri is Apple’s voice-driven virtual assistant technology. It enables users to take many different actions on their Apple Watch, such as setting timers and alarms, creating reminders or notes, finding information online, and more.

Apple Watch: How to Turn on the Hey Siri Feature

You can turn the Hey Siri feature on or off as needed in the Settings app on your Apple Watch. You can activate Siri either by pressing and holding the Digital Crown or by saying Hey Siri when the Hey Siri feature is on.

  • Lift your wrist to wake the Apple Watch.
  • When the watch face appears, click the Digital Crown to display the Home screen.
  • Tap Settings to display the Settings screen.
  • On the Settings screen, tap General.
  • When the General screen appears, tap Siri to display the Siri screen.
  • Set the Hey Siri switch to On and tap Siri to display the General screen.
  • Tap General to display the Settings screen.

Instead of speaking, Siri responds with text on your Apple Watch. Note that you can change Siri’s language from your iPhone by tapping Settings > Siri > Language. Next, choose from the list of languages that Siri understands.

Troubleshooting Siri

If the Hey Siri function is not working properly, for instance if Siri responds, Sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to the network, or Try again in a little while, or if Siri isn’t available, doesn’t understand you, or doesn’t respond to questions, you can try these steps. Don’t forget to check if Siri responds, after each step:

  • Check the Internet connection on your Apple Watch.
  • On your iPhone, see if Siri is turned on. To do this, tap Settings > Siri. Your Apple Watch mirrors your iPhone, so you don’t need to check your watch.
  • On your Apple Watch, see if Hey Siri is turned on. Tap Settings > General > Siri.
  • Restart your Apple Watch.
  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Siri and turn off Siri, then turn it on again.
  • See if the microphone on your Apple Watch is blocked. For example, if your watch has a protective case, remove it and see if the problem has been solved.

Checking the Internet Connection on Your Apple Watch

To enjoy every feature on your Apple Watch, you need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your paired iPhone.

To turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, swipe up on your iPhone to open the Control Center. Then make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on.

Your Apple Watch uses both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to communicate with your paired iPhone, switching between connections as needed:

Your Apple Watch uses Bluetooth when your paired iPhone is near. In this case, the device’s battery conserves power. If Bluetooth isn’t available, your Apple Watch will try to use Wi-Fi, if a compatible Wi-Fi is available and your iPhone isn’t in Bluetooth range.

Your Apple Watch is compatible with Wi-Fi and can connect to a Wi-Fi network if these conditions exist:

  • If your iPhone, while connected to your paired Apple Watch with Bluetooth, has connected to the network before.
  • If the Wi-Fi network is 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz. (That means that, for example, your Apple Watch will not connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi or public networks that require logins, subscriptions, or profiles). Note that when your Apple Watch connects to a compatible Wi-Fi network instead of your iPhone connection, a green cloud icon appears in the Control Center.

How to check the connection between your Apple Watch and iPhone:

  • In fact, there are two ways to check the connection between your Apple Watch and iPhone. If you see a red Disconnected icon on the watch face, you don’t have a connection. You should swipe up on the watch face to open the Control Center, which shows if your devices are connected. You can also tap the iPhone icon. If connected, your iPhone should make a “ping” sound.

To restart your Apple Watch:

  • Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider.
  • Drag the slider to turn off your device.
  • After your watch turns off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo.
