The iMac (17-Inch, 1.8GHz G5, Mid 2004) is the all-in-one desktop computer in a polycarbonate casing behind the 17” screen, mounted on an aluminum stand. The casing is approximately 2 inches deep and it can also be mounted on a wall or kiosk, for it meets the VESA standards. The iMac (17-Inch, 1.8GHz G5, Mid 2004) features a 1.8 GHz PowerPC 970 (G5) processor with an optimized AltiVec “Velocity Engine” vector processing unit, 256 MB of SDRAM, an 80 GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 RPM), a slot-loading 4X “Super” Drive, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra graphics with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM (AGP 8X), and built-in stereo speakers, as well as 2 Firewire “400” and 3 USB 2.0 ports. It also supports AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth, but the cards are optional and installed at the factory. The cooling system is CPU controlled and the in-built speakers are mounted beneath the 17” screen for the sound to bounce off the desk or other surface. The iMac G5/1.6 sets up the new standard in computers design. The hardware goes in a polycarbonate casing behind the LCD flat display. iMac 4G/1.0 15 Inches FP (USB 2.0)

The iMac 4G/1.0 15 inches “FP” has its hardware housed in a hemisphere about 10 inches high, while the 15 inches flat panel TFT monitor tops it on an adjustable steel arm. The iMac 4G “FP” with 15th monitor shares the processor and the hard disk drive capacity with the previous revisions. Yet, the video SDRAM was reduced. The 32x “Combo” drive makes up for that disadvantage, especially when compared with the previous model 4x drive. As to the ports and wireless connectivity, the iMac 4G/1.0 15-Inch “FP” got a USB 2.0 and the internal Bluetooth support but the latter is optional. The iMac (15-inch, 700 MHz G4, Early 2002) design is a great departure from the previous generation. All the hardware is housed in a hemisphere about 10 inches high, while the 15” flat panel TFT monitor tops it on an adjustable steel arm. The iMac (15-inch, 700 MHz G4, Early 2002) features a 700 MHz PowerPC 7441 (G4) processor 128 MB / 256 MB of RAM (PC133 SDRAM), a 40.0 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive (5400 RPM), a tray-loading CD-RW drive / DVD-ROM/CD-RW “Combo” Drive, and NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics with 32 MB of DDR SDRAM (AGP 2X support). The new housing turns out to be very demanding. Apple engineers had had to drop the fanless cooling in the first place and opt for an internal fan. There was no place for internal speakers either, so they had been swapped for the external optional ones. They were shipped with the Combo Drive model. The iMac G3/500 released early in 2001 stands apart from the previous G3 iterations. Not only the processor speed was increased, but also the cache memory and the VRAM. The hard drive and RAM capacity weren’t increased significantly, but the CD drive was now a writing one. iMac (500MHz G3, Summer 2000 Special Edition)

The iMac (500MHz G3, Summer 2000 Special Edition) is the top model of the “Summer Series” line up with the 500 Hz processor, 30 GB hard drive, 128 MB RAM, ATI Rage 128 Pro video card with 8 MB of VRAM and a 4X DVD-ROM. It was to replace the iMac (400MHz G3, Slot-Loading Special Edition), but is also similar to the iMac (450MHz G3, Summer 2000). It has fanless cooling system, two FireWire 400 ports, 2 USB 1.1 ports, in-built speakers, 2 headphone mini jacks and supports the external AirPort. The model is made with emphasis on home video editing, offering an optical disk writing drive capable of writing more capacious DVDs rather than CDs. The iMac G3 Slot-Loading DV+ 450 Hz, just another member of the “Summer Series”, doubled the hard disk storage capacity to 20 GB and switched back to 4X DVD-ROM. It has got a 450 Hz processor, a VGA-port, a larger 20 GB hard drive, an ATI Rage 128 Pro video card, two FireWire 400 ports and the fanless cooling system. iMac G3 Slot-Loading DV 400 Hz 2001

The iMac Slot-Loading G3 DV 400 Hz released in February 2001 was just a reincarnation of iMac G3 DV 400 Hz 2000 in Indigo and Ruby. It has got a 400 Hz processor, a VGA-port, a larger 10 GB hard drive, and two FireWire 400 ports. A DVD-ROM was replaced by a CD-ROM and the price was $100 lower than that of the previous model. The preinstalled OS is also younger. It is available only in one color – Indigo. This iMac also sports the fanless cooling system that makes its operation almost silent. iMac G3 Slot-Loading DV SE 400 Hz Revision B 1999

The iMac G3 DV SE is identical to the iMac G3 DV in everything but hard drive storage capacity and RAM. It got a larger 13 GB drive and larger 128 MB RAM from the box. With emphasis on home video editing, the iMac G3 DV SE has got a more powerful 400 Hz processor, a VGA-port, a DVD-ROM slot loading drive and two FireWire 400 ports. The in iMac G3 DV supports an optional AirPort but in all the other aspects its hardware is identical to the Revision A. For example, not only system bus and hard drive ATA standard remained the same, but also a video processor, so in video editing a user should rely on the central processor performance only. iMac G3 Slot-Loading 350 Hz Indigo 2000

The iMac G3 Slot-Loading 350 Hz Indigo was introduced in summer o 2000 year with slightly larger 7 GB hard drive and better video processor. The body color had been changed from Blueberry to Indigo. The desktop had also lost the AirPort internal support and the puck-round mouse. This was replace by the Apple Pro Mouse. Apart from this, the iMack G3 Indigo is identical to iMac G3 slot-loading revision A, but was available at a much lower price $799. (more…)
