iPod FAQ

iPod nano 2nd gen red

iPod FAQ: The iPod is a line of multi-purpose pocket computers and portable media players. The first iPod was released on October 23, 2001 when Steve Jobs announced it as a Mac-compatible product with a 5 GB hard drive that put “1,000 songs in your pocket.” The iPod was designed by a talented team of Apple experts who worked out how all the key elements would work. It is said that iPod’s aesthetic was inspired by the 1958 Braun T3 transistor radio, while the wheel based user interface was prompted by Bang & Olufsen’s BeoCom 6000 telephone. The product also known as the Walkman of the twenty-first century was developed in less than one year.

iPod FAQ: Questions and Answers

Open spoilers/Close spoilers

How to Erase My iPod?

Answer: If you’ve never synced your iPod with iTunes, you’ll need to put it in recovery mode. Then you’ll restore your iPod as new or from a backup. This will erase the iPod and its passcode:

  • Disconnect all cables from the iPod you are getting ready to be sold.
  • Hold down the Sleep/Wake button, then slide to power off to turn off the iPod.
  • Press and hold the Home button.
  • Plug the device into your computer and continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen. If iTunes doesn’t open automatically, open it. iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
  • Click OK and restore the iPod.

What Happens If I Enter the Wrong Password?

Answer: If you have forgotten your iPod touch passcode, and enter the wrong passcode into the device six times in a row, you’ll be locked out. You’ll also see a message saying that your device is disabled.

How To Restore Your iPod Touch?

Answer: If you’ve synced your device with iTunes, you can restore your iPod touch: Connect it to the computer you normally sync with and open iTunes. If iTunes asks you to enter your passcode or asks you to allow access, try another computer that you’ve synced with or use recovery mode. iTunes will automatically sync your device and create a backup. If it doesn’t, sync the device with iTunes. After the sync is complete, restore the device. When iOS Setup Assistant asks to set up your device, choose Restore from iTunes backup. Select your device in iTunes and choose the most recent backup.

Can I Use My iPod to Hear Anything While Playing Music on My Mac?

Answer: When you run your Mac through your hi-fi, you need to have the computer on to hear anything. Unless you have an AirPort Express, you may need to run a cable across the room. But you can attach an iPod to the hi-fi. This doesn’t give you quite the same ease of use and flexibility, but it’s often more convenient. Run an RCA-to-minijacl cable between your hi-fi’s line-in and your Pod’s headphone socket or, better still, the Line Out on the back of an iPod Docks. The Dock solution can be made all the more convenient when combined with a wireless iPod remote control. There are also all third-party home music systems available with integrated iPod connectors.

How To Reset The Device Before You Sell Old iPad?

Answer: To reset your device before you sell iPad online, go into the iPad’s settings. You’ll see an icon that looks like gears. On the left-hand side of the settings window choose General settings then scroll down the page until you see Reset option in the General settings. Two options are available to you here: Reset All Settings and Erase All Content and Settings. If you choose Reset All Settings, the data (music, movies, podcasts, contacts, etc.) will remain. Answer: While getting ready to trade in used iPad don’t manually delete contacts, reminders, documents, photo streams, contacts or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account. If you delete your content manually it will also be deleted from the iCloud servers, as you will erase thus everything from all of your devices that are signed in to iCloud.

Could you please explain once again how can i erase data on my iPod before I sell your it?

Answer: No problem. First at all, we strongly recommend to erase all the personal info before you sell your old device. Also, remove all the SIM cards (if applicable). Before you erase all the data from iPod, don’t forget to save (back up) all the files you may still need. Now, there are two ways to delete all the data from your iPod, such as notes, videos, photos, bookmarks, and any private information: You can delete all your personal files going to Settings or use iOS Data Eraser or any other powerful instrument which will entirely delete all your personal files.

Before you proceed, make sure that the battery charge of your old iPod you want to sell is enough for the process.

Erasing All Data With Settings: Link your iPod to your computer using its sync cable. Next wait a few seconds for the device to copy with the computer. Head to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content and Settings. Once there, click Erase button to confirm the reset process. Your iPod will show up Apple logo and a progress bar which informs you that it’s going to erase all the data you don’t want anymore. You can press Cancel if you change your mind and decide not to sell your iPod. The device will restart when it finished erasing process.

Where Can I Find My iPod's Capacity?

Answer: iPods have their capacity inscribed on the back. You can also connect your iPod to your computer and see how much memory you have. It will probably tell you a smaller number than 8 or 16, because you can only use a portion of those numbers for storage.

Do people still use iPods?

Answer: Why not? All iPod’s models and generations are respected entertainment devices, but the iPod has also been accepted as a business device by government departments, major institutions and international organisations which have turned to this line of Apple products as a delivery device for business communication and training.

iPods have also gained popularity in education, as we can see on Apple website where the company offers interesting information on educational uses for iPods, including a collection of lesson plans. In a few universities the iPod program continues today.

Where Media Files Are Stored on iPod?

Answer: Media files are stored on an iPod in a hidden folder, along with a database file. The hidden content can be accessed on the host operating system by enabling hidden files to be shown. The media files can then be recovered manually by copying the files or folders off the iPod. Besides, many third-party applications allow easy copying of media files off of an iPod.

What about iPod Touch Camera?

Answer: Well, the 12-megapixel iSight camera captures sharp, detailed stills like the ones shot on iPhones. That includes shooting — and even editing — brilliant 4K video, which is up to four times the resolution of 1080p HD video. Live Photos bring your still photos to life with sound and movement. Simply touch and hold anywhere on your 12-megapixel still and experience the moments just before and after it was taken, so your photos turn into living memories. FaceTime HD camera with Retina Flash isn’t just a place to see your content — it’s a flash for your FaceTime HD camera. Powered by a custom display chip that allows the display to flash three times brighter than usual, the Retina Flash helps illuminate your selfies in low light and at night. And a True Tone flash matches the ambient light for more true-to-life colours and natural-looking skin tones.
