How to Locate a Paired iPhone

The Apple Watch can be used to help the owner locate their paired iPhone when it’s lost. This feature may be very useful when you’ve misplaced your smartphone. The gadget enables you to play a pinging sound on the paired iPhone. However, to perform this capability, the Apple Watch and iPhone must be close enough to each other to communicate via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

How to Locate a Paired iPhone

Locating the Paired iPhone:

  • Wake the Apple Watch by lifting your wrist.
  • As soon as the watch face appears, swipe up.
  • You’ll see the Glances screen. It will show the Glance you used last.
  • Swipe right one or more times until the Setting Glance appears.
  • When you see the Connected readout, indicating that the Apple Watch is connected to your iPhone, tap Ping iPhone.
  • The Pinging iPhone readout will appear, and the iPhone will play a pinging sound to help you locate it.
  • When you find the lost phone, you’ll see the Apple Watch symbol on its screen.

If your Apple Watch is not connected or paired with your iPhone:

If you see a red iPhone icon on your Apple Watch, or you’re trying to pair and can’t find the icon, try to connect your devices again.

Check your Apple Watch connection:

If you don’t get notifications, messages, or calls on the Apple Watch, this may be because your Apple Watch and iPhone are not connected. When your devices disconnect, a red iPhone icon with a diagonal line appears on your watch face. To see if you’re connected, you can also swipe up on the watch face to open the Control Center. When your Apple

Watch connects again, the Connected to iPhone icon appears. Try the steps below to connect your devices.

Try to connect your Apple Watch and iPhone again:

  • Keep your Apple Watch and paired iPhone close together to make sure that they’re in range. On your iPhone, make sure that Airplane Mode is off, and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on. To check, swipe up to open Control Center. If you see an Airplane icon on your watch face, Airplane Mode is on. Swipe up to open Control Center, then turn Airplane Mode off.
  • Restart your Apple Watch and iPhone.
  • Unpair your devices, then pair them again.

If your Apple Watch still can’t connect, unpair your devices, then pair them again:

  • On your Apple Watch, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, tap the My Watch tab, then tap your watch at the top of the screen.
  • Tap the info icon next to the watch that you want to unpair, then tap Unpair Apple Watch > Apple Watch > Unpair Apple Watch.
  • Pair your Apple Watch and iPhone again.

Set up your Apple Watch

Before you begin: To set up and use your Apple Watch, you need an iPhone 5 or later with the latest version of iOS.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is on. Make sure that your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network. Put on your Apple Watch, and keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together as they sync.

If you already set up your Apple Watch but want to use it with a different iPhone, you can transfer your Apple Watch and its content to your new iPhone.

Turn on your Apple Watch: To turn on your Apple Watch, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. This might take a few minutes. Next, select a language and choose a region. To scroll up or down, rotate the Digital Crown.

Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. On your iPhone, tap Start Pairing, then tap it again on your Apple Watch. Wait for an animation to appear on your Apple Watch.

Hold your iPhone over the animation, then center the watch face in the viewfinder. Wait for a message that says Your Apple Watch is Paired. If you can’t use the camera, tap Pair Apple Watch Manually, then follow the steps that appear.

Pairing Screen on Apple Watch

Set up and pick a wrist: On your iPhone, tap Set Up as New Apple Watch. If you’ve set up before, you can tap Restore from Backup. Next, choose which wrist you want to wear your Apple Watch on. Read the Terms and Conditions and tap Agree, then tap Agree again to continue. If you see an Activation Lock screen, your Apple Watch is linked to an Apple ID. You need to enter the email address and password for that Apple ID to continue set up. If your Apple Watch was previously owned, you might need to contact the previous owner to remove Activation Lock.

Set up Route Tracking and Siri

Choose whether you want your Apple Watch to track your workout routes and the weather, which uses Location Services. Then choose whether to use Siri. If Siri isn’t already set up on your iPhone, it will turn on after you choose this option.

Your Apple Watch shows you which settings it shares with your iPhone. If you turned on Find my iPhone, Location Services, Wi-Fi Calling, and Diagnostics for your iPhone, these settings automatically turn on for your Apple Watch.

Sign in with Your Apple ID

Enter your Apple ID and password, then tap Next. You need to sign in with your Apple ID  and password to use features like Digital Touch, Apple Pay, and Handoff. If Find My iPhone isn’t set up on your iPhone, you’ll be asked to turn on Activation Lock.  If you forgot your Apple ID or password, you can find your Apple ID or reset your password.

How to Create a Passcode

Choose whether to create a passcode for your Apple Watch. You need a passcode for features like Apple Pay.

Tap Create a Passcode or Add a Long Passcode on your iPhone. Switch to your Apple Watch to enter your new code, then tap Yes or No to choose if unlocking your iPhone will also unlock your Apple Watch.

You’ll also be asked to set up Apple Pay by adding a card.

Set up the Activity App and SOS

You can set up the Activity app by entering some information about yourself and setting your goals. If you already set up Activity on another Apple Watch, you won’t get this step. If you skip this step, you can set up Activity later in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

You’ll be asked to set up SOS, which calls local emergency services when you press and hold the side button.

Sync Apps

Tap Install All to sync iPhone apps that work with your Apple Watch. Only apps that are compatible with your Apple Watch will sync. Tap Choose Later to sync only basic information like Mail, Contacts, and Messages. Wait for your iPhone and Apple Watch to sync. Depending on the amount of data you’re syncing, this might take some time. Keep your devices close together until you hear a chime and feel a gentle tap from your Apple Watch.
