January 1, 2016 marked the biggest day in App Store history with customers spending over $144 million. It broke the previous single-day record set just a week earlier on Christmas Day. Worldwide, the App Store has brought in nearly $40 billion for developers since 2008, with over one-third generated in the last year alone. Largely as a result of the App Store\u2019s success, Apple is now responsible for creating and supporting 1.9 million jobs in the U.S. alone. The Company posted record quarterly revenue of $75.9 billion and record quarterly net income of $18.4 billion, or $3.28 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $74.6 billion and net income of $18 billion, or $3.06 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 40.1 percent compared to 39.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. We have now completed $153 billion of our $200 billion capital return program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>January 28, 2016:<\/em> <\/strong>Apple announces a voluntary recall of AC wall plug adapters designed for use in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Continental Europe, New Zealand and South Korea. In very rare cases, affected Apple two-prong wall plug adapters may break and create a risk of electrical shock if touched. These wall plug adapters shipped with Mac and certain iOS devices between 2003 and 2015 and were also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit. Apple is aware of\u00a012 incidents worldwide. The recall does not affect any other Apple AC wall plug adapters designed for Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, United States or any Apple USB power adapters. Apple is asking customers to stop using affected plug adapters. Customers can exchange the affected adapters for new,\u00a0redesigned ones. Tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS, the world\u2019s most powerful mobile operating system and the foundation for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This initiative will provide additional, specialized support for them. The new store will open its signature 42-foot tall sliding glass doors to customers on Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. \u201cFifteen years ago today Apple opened its first two stores and we\u2019re thrilled to mark the occasion with the opening of Apple Union Square in San Francisco,\u201d said Angela Ahrendts, Apple\u2019s senior vice president of Retail and Online Stores. \u201cWe are not just evolving our store design, but its purpose and greater role in the community as we educate and entertain visitors and serve our network of local entrepreneurs.\u201d Apple Union Square\u2019s glass doors open the store to Post Street and Union Square. With expanded Siri capabilities, including searching across even more apps, YouTube search, topic search and tuning right into more live channels, customers can get to their favourite content even faster. Universal Clipboard allows users to copy content from an app on one Apple device and paste it into another app on a different Apple device. With iCloud Desktop and Documents users can now access the files on their Desktop from iPhone and iPad. This unprecedented commitment, combined with zero waste compliance from all final assembly sites, furthers Apple\u2019s efforts to help manufacturers lower their carbon footprint and reduce waste in China, helping to advance China\u2019s transition to a new green economy. Lens Technology has committed to power all of its glass production for Apple with 100 percent renewable energy by the end of 2018, as part of Apple\u2019s industry-leading supply chain clean energy program announced last year. Lens is the first supplier to make a clean energy commitment for all of its Apple production, and will meet its goal through an unprecedented power purchase agreement with local wind projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>August 25, 2016:<\/em><\/strong> Apple announces the Apple Music Festival will return to London&#8217;s legendary Roundhouse this September for a 10th anniversary celebration of live music, curated exclusively by Apple Music for fans around the world. The full lineup was announced today by Julie Adenuga, the London voice of Beats 1, an Apple Music radio station that celebrates the best new music every day.
