Huawei Watch: Short Review of New Smartwatches

Android Wear-based Huawei Watch; the first smartwatch of Huawei, was released on September 2, 2015. This watch has the traditional, circular design with a 1.4-inch screen and a resolution of 400 x 400 pixels and 286 ppi. The Huawei watch uses a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, and has 4GB of internal storage.

The device works with the Android Wear operating system and supports Google Now voice commands. It can access calls, messages and emails, so users no longer have to reach for their phones. The watch supports WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 LE. It uses a magnetic charging cradle, with a day and a half battery life. The watch preloads vibration motor, gyroscope and an accelerometer. The Heart rate monitor is centered on the back.

Huawei watch embodies Huawei’s technology innovation heritage. The company is known for their pursuit of premium designs and integration of useful functionality. It looks great and feels good on the wrist too.

The watch is priced at the high end of the Android Wear market. We think it is one of the best-looking smartwatches on the market.

The Huawei Watch’s case is stainless steel, covered with sapphire crystal glass on front. It is available in six different finishes: Stainless Steel Mesh, Steel Link Bracelet, Black-plated Link Bracelet, Alligator-pressed Brown Leather and Rose Gold-plated Link Bracelet. The genuine leather strap is stamped with the words Huawei and sports a stainless-steel buckle with two leather securing straps to help keep the device secure. The retail packaging gives the consumer a sense that they have purchased an expensive piece of jewelry.

The Huawey Watch’s battery life is short for a watch, however. We also dislike that it has no ambient light sensor, which means the watch can’t automatically adjust brightness.

Overall, the Huawey Smartwatch has earned its place in the Android market. We are excited to see what new capabilities the company will improve upon over the next few years.
