The Chebyshev Crater: a historic target from Orion<\/h2>\n

The Chebyshev crater, the subject of the photograph, was identified live by Mission Control. Its location on the Moon\u2019s far side adds special value to the image, as that region is only visible during space missions.<\/p>\n

As Artemis\u202fII orbited the satellite, Wiseman captured a unique perspective, demonstrating the potential of modern mobile technology in space exploration.<\/p>\n

This mission not only expands the lunar photo archive but also shows how everyday devices, in astronauts\u2019 hands, can document key scientific milestones with surprising results.<\/p>\n

Artemis\u202fII revives \u201cEarthrise\u201d<\/h2>\n

NASA recently released an image reminiscent of one of space exploration\u2019s most symbolic moments: the \u201cEarthrise.\u201d On\u202fApril\u202f6,\u202f2026, while orbiting the Moon, the Artemis\u202fII crew photographed the setting of Earth, evoking the famous shot by\u202fBill\u202fAnders\u202fduring Apollo\u202f8\u202fin\u202f1968.<\/p>\n

Back then, Anders\u2014alongside Frank\u202fBorman and\u202fJim\u202fLovell\u2014witnessed Earth appearing over the lunar horizon during the mission\u2019s fourth orbit. The iconic image resulted from a rotation maneuver and the use of a color\u2011film Hasselblad camera, after Lovell supplied the correct film.<\/p>\n

The photograph known as Earthrise was taken on\u202fDecember\u202f24,\u202f1968, and became a symbol of humanity\u2019s ability to view our planet from another world.<\/p>\n

According to\u202fNASA, the image captures the contrast between Earth\u2019s night side and its illuminated hemisphere, with visible clouds over\u202fAustralia and\u202fOceania. The original film had to be brought back to Earth for development, posing an added technical challenge for\u202fApollo\u202f8.<\/p>\n

During Artemis\u202fII, the astronauts experienced a similar situation, observing Earth\u2019s setting and sunrise from lunar orbit using advanced digital technology.<\/p>\n

They also managed to photograph the Mare\u202fOrientale, a ringed structure on the Moon\u2019s surface that helps scientists study how massive impacts shape planetary bodies.<\/p>\n
