In the small world of smartphones, all eyes are on the month of September. During its keynote, Apple is very likely to unveil its iPhone Fold. Its distinguishing feature to stand out from competitors? A so-called \u201cpassport\u201d format, with an almost square external display and an internal 16:9 screen. Samsung wants to beat its rival to the punch this summer with its new Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to adopt this design.<\/p>\n

The Korean company has started teasing the passport format of its new model. According to recent leaks, Samsung could introduce three Galaxy Z models. We would thus see the traditional Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8, along with a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, featuring the passport format that could become the new standard on the market.<\/p>\n

Credit where it\u2019s due: the passport format is not an invention of Apple or Samsung. The first Pixel Fold, for example, already used this form, as did the Oppo Find N and the Huawei Pura X Max. Its main advantage lies in content consumption. The internal screen is not square but uses a 16:9 ratio. The direct consequence is that when watching videos or gaming, the software fits the screen perfectly, eliminating the black bars that can appear on more traditional formats. However, the passport format also has drawbacks, including less workspace on the internal display and a less practical shape when the device is folded.<\/p>\n

With its Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup, Samsung will therefore give users a choice between two distinct products. This is excellent news. The real test of this format will obviously come in September with Apple\u2019s arrival. The Cupertino-based company, backed by the strength of its brand, could further popularize foldable smartphones, even if it doesn\u2019t revolutionize the segment. Of course, other factors will also come into play, particularly price.<\/p>\n
