Miscellanea

  • $100 million were invested into the development of the gamepad. Microsoft honed the Xbox gamepad to perfection. The prototypes featured in-built screens and speakers, these being rejected because of the diminishing batteries life.
  • Speaking of which, you may need a MICROSOFT Play & Charge Kit to charge batteries for your gamepad. The MICROSOFT Play & Charge Kit is a wired charging dock-station for rechargeable batteries, available for an extra cost of $24.99. The Kit features a cable with charge LED indicator and let you charge your gamepad while playing.
  • The Kit’s body has an Xbox Logo and inscription on its body.
  • There’re two ways of connecting your gamepad to the console: with the console’s connect button and with the USB-to-micro USB cable.

Connect your Controller with the Console’s Connect Button

  1. Turn on your Xbox One console.
  2. Insert AA batteries (or rechargeable batteries from the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit) into the controller.
  3. Turn on your controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button until the controller turns on. (The Xbox button is the larger circular button with Xbox Logo on it that crowns your gamepad.) The Xbox button will flash, indicating it’s not yet connected to a console. If the Xbox button is lit solid, the controller is already connected.
  4. Press and release the connect button on the console. Note: on Xbox One S, the connect button is a small circular button located on the front, below the power button. On original Xbox One, the connect button is a small circular button located on the side, around the corner from the disc tray.
  5. Within 20 seconds, press and hold the black connect button on the back of the controller until the controller’s Xbox button quickly flashes a few times, indicating that it’s searching for the console. It switches to a solid light when it’s connected. (The connect button is a small circular button located on the top of the controller as you hold it in your hands.)

Connect Your Controller with the USB-to-Micro USB Cable

If you don’t have charged batteries, you can plug your controller to the console with the USB-to-micro USB cable from the MICROSOFT Play & Charge Kit or from any third-party manufacturer. Thus your wireless controller is turned into the wired one and you can play without batteries, as the gamepad is powered by the console itself.
