Elon Musk Wants to Create a Super AI

Elon Musk Unveils His New Plan to Create a Powerful AI

Elon Musk is not short on ambition when it comes to AI. This is at least what can be gleaned from his recent statements during an exchange with investors about his startup xAI. According to The Information website, he indicated to them that he wants to build a supercomputer to power the next version of his chatbot Grok, offered on the social network X. To learn more about it, you can also read our article here.

In detail, the entrepreneur wants to launch this machine by the fall of 2025. He would associate with the American firm Oracle for this. It would specifically be a group of Nvidia H100 GPUs that would be at least four times larger than the largest existing GPU clusters.

This firepower would be very useful to the billionaire’s company. Indeed, we know that fierce competition is underway between the tech giants to obtain the most powerful electronic chips in sufficient numbers to properly run their latest AI innovations.

The ultimate weapon to develop general artificial intelligence?

In any case, we will have to wait before learning more. Indeed, our colleagues have tried to contact Elon Musk, xAI, or even Oracle to get their reactions, but they did not wish to comment.

Whatever the case, the billionaire has never hidden his interest in the controversial concept of general artificial intelligence (AGI), this technology that would be capable of surpassing humans in many tasks and thinking for itself.

Invited to a podcast last April, the CEO of X estimated that AGI will come much faster than we think: “I think we will have an AI smarter than any human probably by the end of next year.” However, he did not specify where this deadline comes from, which looks like a wet finger forecast.

“This sector is the fastest progressing technology I’ve seen, whatever it is, and I’ve seen a lot of technology,” the executive assured. He added that capabilities are progressing by a factor of 10 each year, or even every six to nine months.

Invited to a podcast last April, the Elon Musk estimated that AGI will come much faster than we think.

However, he pointed out a major limit in this development: “Last year, there was a chip shortage. This year, we are moving to a voltage transformer supply. In a year or two, it will only be about electricity.”

What do you think of Elon Musk’s efforts in AI, and more broadly of this AGI concept? Let us know in the comments.
