Google Pixel C Tablet

Google Pixel C 10.2-inch (Late 2016)

Google Pixel C 10.2-inch (late 2016) is a tablet, which was entirely designed and engineered by Google and sold as the company’s own brand. The tablet has an anodized aluminum case, with an IPS touch screen, protected with the Gorilla Glass. A LED on / charge indicator can be found on the rear part of the case.

The tablet has a unique screen ratio: 1:√2 that is similar to that of an A4 sheet of paper. Unfortunately, the tablet doesn’t support the portrait mode.

Google Pixel C 10.2-inch (late 2016) is powered by Octa-core Nvidia Tegra X1 system-on-a-chip and Nvidia Maxwell graphics. The tablet features 3 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage. No memory card is supported. The connectivity is limited to Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.1, and lacks GSM. Therefore, the tablet lacks GPS and compass features as well. The multimedia includes an 8-megapixel rear cam and a 1.2-megapixel front cam, stereo speakers and a microphone. The only sockets are a 3.5mm jack and a Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, both for charge and data transfer.

Google Pixel C 10.2-inch (late 2016) goes with a magnetic ultra-thin lightweight keyboard, which is available at an extra cost of $149.

Google C 10.2-inch (late 2016) comes with Android OS, v6.0.1 (Marshmallow) from the box, but an upgrade up to Android OS, v7.1 (Nougat) is available.

MISCELLANEA

  • The critical disadvantage of this tablet, is the lack of the GSM module. A user is limited to Wi-Fi free hotspots when outdoors.
  • The tablet had been initially developed for Chrome OS, but was changed to Android.
  • The speakers are installed on short edges, while the microphone grid is on the longer, top edge. An LED, hair thin indicator, is placed on the rear side of the casing and when the tablet is working, it glows four Google brand colors. The same indicator serves to display the charge level and is brought up with a tap when the tablet is asleep.
  • Double tap awakening is deleted from the Android 7.1 Nougat.
  • The tablet supports handwriting, though Google hasn’t rolled out any branded stylus for the portable as of yet.
  • Android 7.1 Nougat supports the split-screen layout, so a user can open multiple windows simultaneously and arrange them on the screen however they see fit.
  • Google C 10.2-inch (late 2016) comes with a Pixel C Keyboard – a Bluetooth ultra-thin detachable board, with a magnet lock. With the keyboard attached, Google C 10.2-inch (late 2016) turns into a “laplet”. The keyboard features a battery inside and can charge the docked tablet inductively. An adjustable stand holds the tablet between 100- and 135-degrees, which is almost flat. The magnet connection is so strong, that the only way to rip the keyboard off is to gently slide it right or left. The keys travel is 1.4 mm, the right shift is half shorter and the right alt is replaced with the Search Key. The keyboard does not have an Android hot key, Volume +/- Keys, trackpad, numeric pad, or backlight. The keyboard can serve as a cover, but it can be clipped on in the landscape orientation only and makes the laptop heavier. Yet, Google C 10.2-inch is 0.3 pounds lighter than its closest competitor; the iPad Pro, even with the keyboard attached. The magnet back of the tablet also allows to clip the tablet to the refrigerator door or any magnet board for your convenience.
  • The wall-wart is slim and can be easily used in a multi-plug outlet.
  • Tegra X1 CPU (codenamed “Erista”) by Nvidia is one of the most powerful gaming CPU. It is installed in Nvidia Shield gaming tablet and Android TV box. Tegra X1 features four powerful Cortex-A57 cores and four auxiliary Cortex-A53 cores (big.LITTLE architecture). Tegra X1 sports NVIDIA Maxwell GPU with 256 cores that supports DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5, NVIDIA CUDA, OpenGL ES 3.1, Vulkan API and AEP extensions, which allows the Google C 10.2-inch (late 2016) to support 4K and 2K video playback, with H.265 and VP9 codecs and 60 fps.
