With the release of iOS 18.1 public beta, Apple Intelligence is now available to the public for the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all the latest iPhone 16 models.
While it wasn’t anticipated to launch with the iPhone 16, Apple surprised everyone by rolling out a public beta, offering exciting features like proofreading, summarizing, and object removal from photos.
After testing all the current capabilities of Apple Intelligence, we’ve picked out the top five tools you can try right away. So, grab your iPhone 16 and dive into these awesome features.
It’s worth mentioning that this list is in no specific order, and since these features are still in beta, the final version of iOS 18.1 may vary from the current public beta.
Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools, available in the iOS 18.1 public beta, are a true time-saver. This suite of AI-driven tools includes features like proofreading, rewriting, summarizing, and even converting text into tables. Writing Tools work seamlessly across iOS and shine particularly in the Notes app, letting you format text quickly into summaries, key points, lists, or tables.
If you’ve used Google’s Magic Eraser on Android, you’ll be familiar with this feature. Apple’s Clean Up, integrated into the Photos app, allows you to effortlessly remove objects from images and replace the background with AI-powered results. It’s especially handy for clearing distractions like dog toys from photos. The feature is so smooth, it feels like a finished product even in beta.
Memory Movies, another Photos feature, turns your pictures into delightful slideshows of memories. Just prompt Apple Intelligence to create a Memory Movie, and within moments, you’ll have a personalized video. For example, it easily compiled my partner’s photos eating in restaurants, complete with a matching soundtrack.
Double tap the bottom bar, and you can now ask Siri questions via text input. While this feature has existed in iOS for accessibility, the ability to seamlessly switch between voice and text input is now much more convenient. Siri isn’t fully updated with Apple Intelligence yet, but you can still follow up with related questions.
In Safari, you can quickly summarize articles using Reader mode. While not as detailed as AI tools like ChatGPT, this feature is easy to use and generates quick summaries. It’s perfect for getting a quick overview before deciding to dive into the full article. In our testing, it’s been a huge time-saver with iOS 18.1 public beta.
That wraps up the top five Apple Intelligence features you can try now in the iOS 18.1 public beta. Although the most exciting updates, like a smarter Siri, Genmoji, and Image Playground, are still to come, there’s plenty to explore in the current version. For those eager to get started, iOS 18.1 public beta is available now, with the full iOS 18.2 launch expected in October. Good luck, guys!
