OK, now it’s time to look at something that we gadget-heads will most likely never grow out of the need for (unless these blindingly inventive tech-lab types invent the way to charge your phone or tablet from the inside), that we often drown in exactly by that reason… and that, despite it all, often manages to be annoyingly – and in some cases, devastatingly – be not at hand exactly when you need it.
Chargers, yes. This support network for these ever-gluttonous batteries, these keepers of our every digital tool or toy’s uninterrupted work, will for the foreseeable future remain to be an unavoidable addition to even the most space-saving and unobtrusive contraption ever (some Apple phones aside, but that’s a gripe for another day). So even those humble accessories also must be chosen wisely, too.
At least you now luckily have the option to lose the cables on that front, which often takes the compatibility issue off your mind (no slots). And, on top of that, you have us, who will always come to the rescue when there’s a need to somewhat narrow down the search area. Which means that you’re about to get yet another dose of our (hopefully) helpful advice, this time on where to look if you’re ready to splash a bit more for your device’s – and therefore, yours – convenience.
And we’ll start out with the Anker’s offering, and we have at least two good reasons for putting it first. One of these reasons is that their PowerWave II Pad can be actually quite nimble. Only at 15W level of charging, but still, considering that the speed often turns out to be the downside of wire-free charging, this is nothing to sneeze at. However, if need be, you – or rather the thing itself – can switch between whatever power your gadget requires (there are four different options, and they will be chosen automatically). So they do have some claim on this “power” part of the title. And the second brownie point we give to this one for its capability to charge whatever you need to charge through its case, too (well, not any case, anything over the 5 mm in thickness is off limits, but still). A good traction with various surfaces – all hail the inventors of silicone – also has to be noted: you’ll have much less worries about it sliding on the floor or ground, should you choose the II Pad. But these treats, as do so many, come at a price, even on Amazon.
Now, for those who are still willing to part with a higher sum for more in return, a word of advice: if it’s the speed above all else that you are prepared to pay dearer for, another just as viable option for you will be the OnePlus Warp Charge 50, which is also rather fast with 15W charging (which in the case of Warp apples to anything Qi-enabled). And if you happen to own the OnePlus 9 Pro, it is very likely the option for you, because with this model, this charger truly goes into warp and gets the job done in less than an hour (more than 15 minutes less, in fact). That’s something even the wires rarely can do. But if it’s versatility or space-saving you are after, look elsewhere: this stand is far from small, only works with phones.. .and yes, it will cost you.
So, if you’d prefer a less steep price, you might want to go for the maker known for their merciful-to-budget products, which is ESR. Their charging stand, the HarloLock Magsafe, may work slower than the II Pad, but wins on physical flexibility: there are several angles and positions at which you can place your phone on the charger (and therefore, you can watch whatever happens on the screen even in the process). And as far as traction goes, it even beats the Anker’s rival, thanks to its mighty magnet. Unfortunately, however, we didn’t specify the device to be charged as “a phone” for nothing. This stand will indeed only charge the phones, and just iPhones, at that. Meaning, non-Apple crowd need not apply. And in the unlikely case of you not having plenty of older accessories accumulated at your home, the low price will be boosted by the need to buy an adapter as well.
And, speaking of Apple, their own MagSafe model also comes with no connector to the mains (which, without having the cheapness benefit, will probably make many of you think twice, especially considering that in this particular case compatibility does become an object) and forget about charging third party devices. But if you are already on the Apple wagon, this still might be the one for you, what with working like a breeze with the models of that company, and not just phones, at that. (There is even the Duo version which will work on a phone and a watch at once).
Belkin’s Boost Charge 15W Wireless, on the other hand, is less limited in terms of covered gadgets (even though the 12 Mini owners will need something else). You might be able to use it with watches and even headsets, not just phones. The key word is “might”, however: not every watch or headset will be able to connect to the Boost’s high-placed charging elements. Plus, there is no way to switch the LED screen, so the slight sleepers will have to charge their stuff out of the bedroom at night. In better news, thin cases are not an issue and the adapter is included.
And lastly, in the time-honored tradition, comes the best, as far as we’re concerned. Ladies, gentlemen and all the others, we – or rather the fine people at Morphie – give you the Wireless Charging Stand Plus. OK, granted, they sell it to you, and not that cheaply, but they make it worth every cent. Their charger is practically universal: anything goes with it, from phones to headsets, and Androids and iPhones are equally welcome. The flexibility is further boosted by the amount of gadgets you can charge simultaneously: the Plus sees the aforementioned Magsafe Duo and raises its stake to a trio, for there is a USB port added to the stand itself, and a horizontal surface too. All that comes with a rather nice design, and you also get the Apple Watch stand for the price. Besides, the same company makes portable power banks, so there might be some package deals to look for that will give you the option of on-the-go charging. Not one to miss, rest assured.
