Apple Smart Glasses Could Arrive Before 2027 with AI Features

Far from offering the augmented reality experience that many associate with the name “Apple Glass”, the device would arrive in a more basic version.

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first smart glasses before the end of 2027, according to Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. Far from offering the augmented reality experience that many associate with the name “Apple Glass,” the device would arrive in a more basic version focused on audio, camera, and artificial intelligence features, without a display to project images.

Additionally, the company is said to be exploring a possible successor to its Vision Pro headset in parallel, although neither project has been officially confirmed.

Possible Launch Timeline for Apple Smart Glasses

Forecasts regarding the arrival date of this product have varied in recent months. Gurman now places Apple’s internal target before the end of 2027, a timeframe that aligns with what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously anticipated in June 2025.

Gurman himself suggested a different, closer date in September of that year for glasses without augmented reality features. However, in May 2026, he corrected course and pushed the project back toward the end of 2027, an estimate that the latest information confirms.

These dates represent internal targets for Apple, not official commitments, so they are subject to change. There is also no certainty as to whether an eventual product announcement at the end of 2027 would mean immediate store availability, as those two milestones do not always coincide with the company’s product launches.

In short, Apple’s smart glasses could debut before the end of 2027, albeit without an integrated display in their first version: they would feature audio, a camera, and artificial intelligence functions in a format closer to everyday eyewear than a mixed-reality headset.

A First Screenless Model Designed for Daily Use

Unlike what the project’s well-known moniker suggests, the first Apple Glass would not project visual content in front of the user’s eyes. As described by Gurman, it would consist of glasses with audio, a camera, and smart features, but without a screen to display interfaces or images.

Conceptually, this approach brings the device closer to the Ray-Ban Meta than to a mixed-reality system like the Vision Pro. The reasoning likely stems from the different demands posed by a product designed to accompany the user throughout the day versus a headset intended for more specific use.

Apple already offers voice interaction via Siri through AirPods, but incorporating cameras into glasses would unlock additional possibilities tied to whatever the user is looking at in real time. For now, no technical specifications or specific capabilities for the device have been confirmed.

The company is expected to reserve the inclusion of visual elements for a later generation of the product. This means that the “Apple Glass” name would not imply a fully featured pair of augmented reality glasses in its initial release, but rather a preliminary step within a potential family of devices that Apple has not publicly detailed.

Other Smart Devices in Development

Apple’s interest in integrating artificial intelligence into everyday objects isn’t limited to glasses. Gurman’s newsletter also mentions other form factors the company is exploring in parallel, such as AirPods equipped with camera sensors.

Joining this lineup is a screenless activity band, likewise designed to accompany the user throughout the day without relying on a traditional visual interface. These are independent initiatives, but they share a common goal: expanding smart capabilities into continuously worn devices.

At the same time, Apple is said to be continuing work on a potential successor to the Vision Pro, its mixed-reality headset. This development remains a separate project from the smart glasses, aimed at a different type of experience than what a lightweight, everyday device seeks to provide.
