iPhone 13 Is Coming: What to Expect

Apple is about a month away from launching their new 2021 flagship iPhone 13. While there may be little change cosmetically apart from a smaller notch at the top, we expect to see a lot of camera upgrades along with new features. The upcoming iPhone 13 series will allegedly have three new camera and video-recording features. Portrait mode version of video recording is likely to feature along with a new video format called ProRes where users can record better quality videos. The phone’s Portrait mode would have new algorithms to incorporate data from the LiDAR scanner and also support video output. The iPhone 13 will also come with new filters so users can edit the looks and colours of pictures thanks to an upgraded image signal processor in the Apple A15 chip, Apple’s own custom SoC.

The iPhone 13 Pro will allegedly have an ultra-wide lens with autofocus. The current iPhone 12 ultra-wide lens is fixed-focus and cannot focus on a specific object, but with autofocus, users will be able to adjust the lens and focus on objects they want, just like with wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The iPhone 13 Pro is also reported to have better processing power that will render better images and videos. Apple has made some considerable improvement with the ultra-wide lens with Deep Fusion and Night Mode, but it lags behind the new Samsung, so we expect this feature to be improved in the upcoming phone.

With each new iPhone, we expect the camera notch and the Face ID cutout would get smaller, but it has stayed the same since the iPhone X, but this could well change in 2021 where the iPhone 13 is expected to feature a smaller notch compared to yesteryear’s phone.

With each new iPhone, we expect the camera notch and the Face ID cutout would get smaller, but it has stayed the same since the iPhone X, but this could well change in 2021 where the iPhone 13 is expected to feature a smaller notch compared to yesteryear’s phone. Apple has reportedly changed the position of the receiver at the top to reduce the size of the TrueDepth camera which would allow for a smaller notch. There are also rumours that Apple will resort to a hole-punch design for the iPhone 13 notch.

Apple is expected to enhance its camera capabilities for the this year lineup. There could be some interesting design changes in the camera module. The bump is likely to stay and a leaked render of the new phone suggests a three-camera module with much larger lenses than the current generation of iPhone. The two variants, iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max likely would feature larger apertures on their ultra-wide cameras, with an f/1.8 aperture which is an upgrade from the current f/2.4 on the iPhone 12. All three variants of new model are expected to have sensor-shift stabilization, which is now only limited to the high-end iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The 2021 lineup will also have bigger batteries, better 5G connectivity, and a 120 Hz LTPO display on both Pro models. The phone is expected to launch sometime in September and in keeping with the times the launch would most likely be a virtual event.
