About the Very First Google Foldable Smartphone – Pixel Fold

The concept of a foldable smartphone refers to devices with flexible displays that can be folded or unfolded to provide a larger or smaller screen size as needed. This design allows users to enjoy the portability of a smartphone while also benefiting from a larger display when desired.

Many smartphone manufacturers have been exploring foldable phone technology, and some have already released foldable devices. The Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X, and Motorola Razr are examples of foldable smartphones that are available in the market.

The Pixel Fold is Google’s first foldable smartphone, announced on May 10, 2023 and launched in June 2023. This smartphone is designed with the following features and specifications:

• The device features split screen functionality which allows you to do two things at once.

• It has a very durable hinge and is the thinnest foldable phone available. The device is also ready for spills and splashes.

• The Pixel Fold uses the Google Tensor G2 chip, which is custom-made for Pixel devices and enables the phone to have fast and secure operations with smooth multitasking and video streaming.

In resumé… the Pixel Fold from Google has two OLED screens: a 7.6-inch one that unfolds like a book and a 5.8-inch one on the front, both with 120 Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Google Tensor G2 processor and has a triple rear camera with a 48 MP main sensor. It runs on Android 12 with some exclusive features for the foldable format.

However, some early reviews have reported issues with the durability of the device. A journalist claimed that his Pixel Fold screen died without reason after only 4 days of use. Another one said that his screen cracked after 4 days as well, suggesting a possible design flaw.

Globally, the verdict on the Pixel Fold is that it is a good device, but not great, especially compared to Samsung’s foldables.
