Samsung’s latest software update transforms the Galaxy Z Fold 4, giving it a feel akin to the Fold 5

Samsung has announced a series of updates for devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Tab S8 series. Labeled as One UI 5.1.1, these updates align these gadgets with the software specifications introduced during the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event.

This news was shared via a blog post by the company, mentioning that all eligible Galaxy foldable and tablet devices will receive these updates over time, with the latest models being prioritized.

Both the Fold 4 and Flip 4 will experience an enhanced Flex Mode with an adaptable Flex Mode Panel, resembling the features of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Additionally, these devices and the Tab S8 will see improved multitasking capabilities, such as better drag and drop functions between compatible apps.

Samsung isn’t just stopping with these updates; they are currently in the process of trialing One UI 6, which is founded on Android 14. The beta version of this software is now accessible for the Samsung Galaxy S23, offering lock screen customizations akin to iOS 16, a redesigned notification center, and all standard Android 14 features.

“Our goal with One UI is to encapsulate the individual preferences of our users across their mobile journey,” remarked Janghyun Yoon, the Executive Vice President of Mobile Experience at Samsung Electronics. “Each version of One UI is designed in response to our user base’s feedback, and we eagerly await their thoughts on One UI 6 to deliver a more enriched and intuitive experience.”

Reaffirming its commitment, Samsung has a practice of providing up to five years of updates on a plethora of devices from various series, including the budget-friendly A-Series. This sustainable approach not only addresses e-waste concerns but also reassures users to retain their perfectly good devices rather than seeking frequent upgrades, as with some competitors.

In essence, Samsung is conveying a clear message: customers don’t necessarily need the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Galaxy Z Flip 5 for the latest experience.

Such an approach signifies Samsung’s belief in the longevity of its products, diverging from the past where their phones would deteriorate within a couple of years post-purchase.

In essence, Samsung is conveying a clear message: customers don’t necessarily need the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Galaxy Z Flip 5 for the latest experience; the Fold 4 and Flip 4 are more than competent. After reviewing both the Fold 5 and Flip 5, this statement is hard to dispute.
