Personal Intelligence will make Gemini much more efficient — but this AI revolution comes at a cost
Google has just unveiled Personal Intelligence, a new service that uses all your data to make Gemini much more effective in its responses. It’s a real nightmare for privacy protection.
After a slow start, Gemini is now among the most capable AIs on the market. Today, Google is kicking things into high gear with Personal Intelligence, a service designed to harness your personal data to make Gemini’s answers far more relevant.
In practice, Gemini now draws on your Google data to get to know you — and therefore respond better. Whether it’s your photos stored in Google Photos, your Gmail inbox, your search history, or your YouTube activity, the AI is poking its nose everywhere to please you. The promise is impressive — but, let’s admit it, also concerning.

Gemini becomes a made-to-measure AI
Try it yourself: ask Gemini to organize a trip for you without adding any details. The AI currently responds that it doesn’t know where you’ve traveled before, so it can only offer general suggestions. With Personal Intelligence, it now has all the background information it needs.
Google gives an example: a user requests a trip to Chicago to discover new things. Gemini knows from your previous travel photos what you’ve already done and can therefore suggest fresh experiences. Another example: “Which tires do you recommend for my car?” Gemini analyzes your Photos and Gmail to figure out what model you drive and guides you accordingly.
Even more, you can ask Gemini for a book recommendation — it knows exactly what you’ve read or like. And if you tell it directly that you dislike golf, it will remember that for next time.
Google clarifies, however, that users will be able to unlink certain apps. Don’t want Gemini snooping in your photos? You can disconnect that feature. You’ll also be able to delete your conversation history. Furthermore, Google says Gemini will always cite its sources — it will tell you whether a piece of information came from your emails or search history. Of course, the AI will only access this data with your explicit permission.
At the moment, Personal Intelligence is available in beta only to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States. Needless to say, this feature is a real privacy nightmare. It’s doubtful the European Union will allow Google to implement something like this within its jurisdiction — especially given that data protection and digital sovereignty are major issues for both users and governments in an increasingly tense world. Personal Intelligence may remain a distant feature for the Old Continent — and that may be for the best.

What Is Gemini?
Gemini is Google’s next-generation artificial intelligence assistant and family of large language models designed to work across many types of data, including text, images, audio, video, and code. It powers the Gemini app on phones and is gradually replacing Google Assistant on many Android devices, offering more advanced conversational abilities and reasoning.
Beyond simple voice commands, Gemini can summarize long documents, generate and analyze code, create images, help plan trips, and integrate with services like Gmail, Docs, Maps, and YouTube to assist with everyday tasks. It is also being integrated into Google products such as Search, Workspace, and smart home devices, where it can act as a more context-aware, personalized assistant. Overall, Gemini is positioned as Google’s core AI platform for both consumer and professional use, aiming to provide a unified, multimodal assistant across devices and services.
