iPhone 12 Drifts into October or November

As the well-known insider Jon Prosser a.k.a analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities twitted recently, the iPhone 12 won’t be out until October or even November.

Later it turned out that Apple seems to space out the release dates and the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and two 6.1-inch handsets will arrive in September, while the release of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is postponed indeed till November as the Engineering Verification Test schedule suggests. It’s unusual for Apple, but the company drops after the possible delays had been reported and the top managers are trying to improve the situation. The EVT stage means that the prototyping for the 12th generation of iPhones is finalized and we can speculate on expected specs.

Expected specs

The lineup will include three models: a standard iPhone 12 model with a 5.4-inch and a 6.1-inch displays, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and a max size 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

In terms of hardware, each phone in the iPhone 12 lineup will feature the rumored A14 Bionic chipset with 5G support. The Apple ARM processor will be accompanied with the Qualcomm 5G modems. It looks like the era of the 5G flagships is about to begin and we can even hope for 5G mid-class models in the summer of 2021.

Standard iPhone 12 models will reportedly feature dual back cameras, while the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will probably carry a triple camera array each.

Standard iPhone 12 models will reportedly feature dual back cameras, while the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will probably carry a triple camera array each. The phones are mooted to inherit an additional LiDAR scanner from the iPad Pro 2020 for improved augmented reality. The time of flight sensor is also a possibility.

Design updates

All the iPhone 12 models will have aluminum bodies and much smaller notches, CAD renders suggest. The higher-end and more expensive iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will also sport stainless steel frames. As the drop tests of the iPhone 11 Pro demonstrated, such frames are harder to scratch and the chances of the display’s survival are higher.

Prices

We can give you just ballpark figures, but the price is going to be higher than that of the iPhones 11. If you remember, the iPhone 11 started at an affordable $699, while the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max costed $999 and $1,099 respectively. The wild card is how much the 5G support and the LiDAR scanner will add to the price. with the bear market already here, we doubt that the new Apple handsets will sell well.
