The list of jobs that will be most impacted by artificial intelligence

IT professionals will be among the most affected because artificial intelligence will improve functions such as software development.

In recent years, artificial intelligence has modified the job market by changing the way many jobs are developed and their future stability. This technology is destined to automate routine tasks, optimize processes, and improve efficiency in a variety of industrial sectors, generating a significant impact on many jobs.

In a report by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with Accenture, titled “Jobs of Tomorrow: Large Language Models and Work,” it has been evaluated how AI will affect different professions and economic sectors.

This study, which analyzed more than 19,000 occupational tasks in 867 different professions, offers a detailed view of which jobs could face the greatest changes due to the adoption of AI.

Which jobs suffer the most impact from artificial intelligence?

A large part of the jobs will have AI intervention, although in some cases it will only be used to solve everyday tasks.

  • Information Technology: high impact – 73%, small impact – 26%, no impact: 1%.
  • Finance: high impact – 70%, small impact – 21%, no impact: 9%.
  • Sales: high impact – 67%, small impact – 16%, no impact: 17%.
  • Operations: high impact – 65%, small impact – 28%, no impact: 17%.
  • Human Resources: high impact – 57%, small impact – 31%, no impact: 2%.
  • Marketing: high impact – 56%, small impact – 41%, no impact: 3%.
  • Lawyers: high impact – 46%, small impact – 50%, no impact: 4%.
  • Supply Chain: high impact – 43%, small impact – 18%, no impact: 39%.

The sectors most sensitive to automation

The information technology and finance sectors appear as the most susceptible to AI-driven automation. In the IT sector, it is estimated that 73% of the tasks could experience a high degree of automation, with only 1% of tasks likely to remain unchanged by AI.

This includes functions such as software quality and customer support, where language models can play a crucial role in improving efficiency and response.

On the other hand, the financial sector faces a similar outlook, with 70% of tasks highly impacted by AI, standing out in areas such as accounting, auditing, and financial record management.

This automation promises to increase the accuracy and speed of processes and free up professionals for higher-value-added tasks that require unique human skills, such as strategic decision-making and personalized advice.

Variable impact in other sectors

Other sectors such as sales, operations, and human resources will also experience significant changes due to AI. For example, in sales, 67% of the tasks could be highly impacted, which could imply a transformation in the way customer relationships are managed and sales are made.

Similarly, in operations, 65% of the tasks face a high possibility of automation, which could optimize inventory management and logistics.

In the field of human resources, the report reveals that 57% of the tasks could be automated, which includes functions such as payroll management and initial candidate selection.

While AI can improve efficiency in these processes, human intervention will continue to be crucial for more complex aspects of human resource management, such as conflict resolution and talent development.

Jobs with minimal impact

There are sectors where the influence of AI will be less pronounced. For example, in the supply chain and manufacturing, although 43% of the processes could be automated, it is still expected that 39% of the tasks will require human intervention due to the complexity and variability inherent in these operations.

This includes activities such as inventory management and logistical coordination, where strategic decisions and adaptation to unforeseen changes are essential.

In the legal sector, another notable example, the impact of AI is significant but not absolute. Approximately 46% of the tasks could be automated, such as the review of legal documents and standard contracts, but 50% of the tasks will still require human interpretation and legal judgment for more complex and specific cases.

Examples that highlight that while the automation of tasks will reach a wide variety of jobs and traditional functions, the implementation of AI also opens up new job opportunities, such as the creation of more specific roles and the possibility for workers to have more time to develop tasks that require creativity, reasoning, and human skill.
