Affected phones may have privacy issues, though Apple has yet to release a solution. A group of iPhone users has reported an unusual problem online: unknown voices coming from their phones even when no call is in progress and no apps are running in the background. The stories, mostly shared on Reddit forums, have left many wondering whether this is merely a technical glitch or something more sinister.
The concern began when an iPhone 15 user shared their experience. According to their account, while gardening, they clearly heard a man’s voice on their phone, even though no apps were open and they were not on a call.
“I thought I had left a YouTube video playing, but that wasn’t the case, and I was definitely not on a call,” they wrote. On another occasion, they claimed the same voice made an aggressive exclamation. They ended their post with a mix of humor and concern: “Is this just a system issue, or should I burn my phone?”
Another user recounted a similar experience in a more mundane setting: while working, they began to hear voices from a conversation between colleagues in a warehouse environment. Like the first user, they thoroughly checked that no apps were running and closed anything that could have been open, but the problem persisted.
“This is a privacy issue,” they commented, while asking if others had experienced similar problems. Immediately, more users shared similar situations they had encountered or seen on other social networks.
Online discussions quickly turned to speculation about the possible causes of this unsettling glitch. One of the most popular theories is that it could be a bug in iOS 18, Apple’s latest operating system.
This version of iOS has been criticized for a series of issues since its release. With some suggesting there may be a flaw that allows certain apps like YouTube or TikTok to play audio in the background randomly, even after being closed.
It’s worth noting that these types of bugs in Apple operating systems are not new. A recent example was an issue with iPadOS 18, which rendered some M4 devices inoperable until the company publicly acknowledged the problem and took action.
In the case of the voices on iPhones, the number of reports remains small, which might explain why Apple has not issued a statement or released a specific update to address the issue.
However, if the reports continue to grow, the company may be forced to investigate further and provide a solution. Especially since it could involve a security and privacy breach that exposes users to external content, as closed apps might still be running without permission in the background.
For now, the main recommendation for anyone experiencing this issue is to manually close all open apps and restart the device if the problem persists. While some Reddit users have jokingly suggested unconventional solutions like contacting an exorcist, the reality is that seeking Apple technical support is the most reasonable step if the problem continues or worsens.
As a preventive measure, tech experts advise users to stay alert for future operating system updates and any official statements from Apple. For now, while the number of reported cases remains low, this phenomenon continues to draw attention for its unusual and potentially unsettling nature.
