Apple is finally set to fix the biggest flaw in the iPhone’s camera

Apple is reportedly about to unveil new iPhones featuring a groundbreaking anti-reflective technology for photos taken with the rear camera sensor. This news comes from new information from Apple’s Asian production lines. The exact models involved are not yet known for sure, as the manufacturer keeps its new developments under wraps and only confirms them officially at their launch with a keynote or press release. However, it is widely believed that the devices in question are the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which are expected to be released in September.

This new anti-reflective technology should reduce the halo effects caused by lens flare or ghosting. This is great news for those who capture images against the light but regret the overly visible brightness of the sun, which deteriorates the final image quality. This improvement is not expected to be announced during the Worldwide Developer Conference. Indeed, at the event, it is rumored that the company will mainly reveal new software features to the public and journalists, as has been the case in previous years.

A hardware innovation

To achieve this, Apple would use a technique called atomic layer deposition. This would ensure superior optical quality for the equipped sensor. These include a twelve-megapixel telephoto lens, a forty-eight-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a wide-angle lens of the same resolution.

For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max currently have a twelve-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. But higher resolution allows for sharper images, notably with much less grain. When you zoom in after taking the shot, you should not notice as much blur with an iPhone 16 Pro as with an iPhone 15 Pro. With this, it’s worth noting that the optical zoom would increase from 3x on the iPhone 15 Pro to 5x on the iPhone 16 Pro, the same figure as on the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

When will the new iPhones be released?
