Today Apple actively has three iMac 2019 desktops available for sale. A 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac and a premium class 27-inch iMac Pro. These models have been silently upgraded this March and now feature an 8-gen and 9 gen CPUs aboard with GPUs to match.
The 21.5-inch iMac 2019 now comes with 8th-generation quad-core and hexa-core Intel Core i5 and i7 chips aboard. The overall performance increased up to 60 percent compared to the previous generation’s hardware.
Surprisingly, Intel processors are paired with a Radeon Pro Vega graphics from AMD (normally Intel chips work better with Nvidia). Probably, the optimized energy consuming profile is the key reason here. The graphics performance is now up to 80 percent faster.
The entry-level 21.5-inch iMac features a 2.3GHz dual‑core Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD, and Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640. The desktop with no discrete graphics inside costs $1,099.
The mid-level 21.5-inch iMac has a 3.0GHz 6-core Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, 1TB combined SSD/HDD Fusion Drive, and Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB of VRAM. The price is $1,499, but you know what you pay for, this is a good reliable working station.
For more demanding tasks choose the top-end 21.5-inch iMac with a 3.2GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2 memory, and a 1TB SSD. This is the first 21.5-inch iMac to feature six cores, and the price soars around $3,349.
The larger 27-inch iMac 2019 is powered with new 9th-generation hexa-core and octa-core processors and Radeon Pro Vega graphics. The overall performance doubled (up to 2.4 times to be precise) while a graphics performance increased up to 50 percent.
The entry-level 27-inch iMac features a 3.0GHz 6‑core Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, 1TB combined SSD/HDD Fusion Drive, and Radeon Pro 570X with 4GB of VRAM. You have to shell out $1,799 for this desktop, but this is just the beginning.
The mid-level 27-inch iMac is equipped with a 3.7GHz 6‑core Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, 2TB combined SSD/HDD Fusion Drive, and Radeon Pro 580X with 8GB of VRAM. The revamped Apple desktop costs $2,299!
The top-end 27-inch iMac options include a 3.6GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, incredible 64GB of RAM, Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB of HBM2 memory, and a 2TB SSD. No wonder, the price rockets up to $5,249!
No new ports appeared and no old ones were dropped. Upgraded iMacs feature 3.5 mm headphone jack, SDXC card slot, four USB 3 ports (reverse compatible with USB 2), four Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports and 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet.
This premium Apple all-in-one desktop gets just a minor upgrade in graphics and memory. Now the 27-inch Mac Pro 2019 features a Radeon Pro Vega 64X GPU with 16GB of HBM2 memory, and the jaw-dropping 256GB of 2666MHz DDR4 ECC.
Add a 2.3GHz 18-core Intel Xeon W processor, 4TB SSD storage and the price goes through the roof for $15,000!
And if this iMac Pro costs like a new car, the next generation of the Pro lineup will probably be the same price as a new luxury ride, that’s for sure. If you don’t think that it will come this year, think again- because the unveiling of the new model is scheduled for WWDC in June.
