Honor Magic

In December 2016, Huawei launched its Honor Magic phone in China. This smartphone is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core Kirin 950 processor, it comes with a 5.09-inch touchscreen display, with a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels at a PPI of 577 pixels per inch, and has 4GB of RAM. Its internal storage is of 64GB, and cannot be expanded.

The phone also packs a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel front shooter with f/2.0 aperture on board. The camera has FaceCode Intelligent Recognition, so new message notifications will only reveal themselves for pre-registered faces, in order to ensure the owner’s privacy.

The Honor Magic runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Honor Magic Live OS and is equipped with a 2900mAh non-removable battery, with support for Magic Charge fast charging technology that can charge up to 70% with just 20 minutes of charge, and 90% in just under 30 minutes. The phone measures 146.10 x 69.90 x 7.80. The device is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone. It accepts Micro-SIM, as well as Nano-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM, 3G and 4G. Sensors include a Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Gyroscope and fingerprint sensor built into the home button (the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the front of the phone – an unusual move, since most of its other phones have the sensor on the back.)

Besides, the Honor Magic has a feature called DeepThink, that lets the user press and hold the home button, so the gadget will offer multi-faceted information, based on the current webpage the user is visiting. The home button lets the user unlock the phone, return to the previous page, browse history, or return to the home screen by touching, double tapping or swiping on the same key.

The phone’s curved glass finish is pleasant to the eye and touch, both on the front, as well as on the back. On to the right side, the Honor Magic has a volume rocker button and a power/lock button. The antenna band goes on both sides. The usual 3.5mm audio jack, SIM slot, standard USB port for charging, and the speaker grill are located on the bottom band next to each other.

The WiseScreen has an intelligent sensor, which recognizes the user’s eyes and hand when he or she picks up the phone, and unlocks the screen for them. On the contrary, when the user puts down the smartphone, or places it in his pocket, the screen goes off within a second.

The first versions of Honor Magic come in Golden black and Porcelain white colors, but the rose gold metal frame around the edges won’t be to everyone’s tastes. The initial price is 3699 yuan, which equals roughly $530.

Honor has been knocking it out of the park with mid-range phones lately. First, the world saw the top-notch Honor 8, complete with flagship-busting looks, and then the Honor 6X arrived with an impressive spec for your cash. The Magic, much like most Honor phones, started life out in China and was introduced and relaunched in the US and Europe in late February 2017.
