A Few Words About the New Huawei Mate XT Smartphone

Huawei has released a new smartphone – the Huawei Mate XT (or Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design), which features a foldable display that triples. Since the start of pre-orders on September 7, the number of orders on Huawei’s official website exceeded 6 million within just the first 10 days. However, the company acknowledged that it only had a million units in stock at that time.

The Huawei Mate XT officially went on sale on September 20, coinciding with the release of the new iPhone.

Despite its minimum price of $2,835, which is significantly higher than the cost of the most expensive iPhone 16 Pro Max, many people are eager to get their hands on the new Huawei.

This is the world’s first mass-produced smartphone that folds into three parts. No similar smartphone exists from Apple or Samsung.

As mentioned, the display of the Huawei Mate XT folds into three sections. When fully opened, the screen diagonal measures 10.2 inches.

The device is offered in three configurations: 16/256 GB for $2,835, 16/512 GB for $3,120, and 16 GB/1 TB for $3,400.

When folded (transforming into a standard smartphone shape), the screen diagonal is 6.4 inches with a resolution of 2232 x 1008 pixels. If the two halves are unfolded, it results in a display with a diagonal of 7.9 inches and a resolution of 2232 x 2048 pixels. The resolution of the 10.2-inch screen is 2232 x 3184 pixels.

The Huawei Mate XT is equipped with a 5600 mAh battery, supporting wired charging at 66W and wireless charging at 50W. The main camera features sensors with resolutions of 50 MP, 12 MP, and 12 MP, while the front camera is 8 MP.

In summary, the new Huawei costs about the same as a new iPhone and iPad combined. Nevertheless, there is clearly demand for the new smartphone, despite its not-so-great performance and limited software.

About Huawei

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics manufacturer founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei. Initially focused on providing telephone exchange equipment, Huawei has grown to become one of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers and a leading provider of telecommunications infrastructure. The company operates in over 170 countries and employs hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

Huawei’s relationship with the United States has been marked by tension and controversy, particularly in recent years. The U.S. government has expressed concerns over Huawei’s close ties to the Chinese government, alleging that its technology could be used for espionage. This led to a series of actions aimed at limiting Huawei’s influence in the U.S. and allied countries.

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics manufacturer founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei.

In 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce added Huawei to its Entity List, effectively banning American companies from supplying technology and components to Huawei without a special license. This move severely impacted Huawei’s ability to procure essential hardware and software, particularly Google’s Android operating system for its smartphones. As a result, Huawei has sought to develop its own operating system, HarmonyOS, to reduce reliance on Western technology.

The geopolitical landscape further complicated Huawei’s position, as several allied nations echoed U.S. concerns, leading to bans or restrictions on Huawei’s participation in the rollout of 5G networks. Despite these challenges, Huawei has continued to expand in other markets and has invested heavily in research and development to maintain its competitive edge.

In summary, while Huawei has achieved remarkable growth and innovation, its relationship with the U.S. remains strained, shaped by security concerns and broader geopolitical dynamics.
