Remove Jailbreak Safely and Restore

Q: Can I remove jailbreak from an iPhone or iPad?

A: Yes. You can do it from a backup via iTunes.

Q: How can I restore my device via iTunes?

How to Remove Jailbreak Safely and Restore Your iPhone or iPad

Guide:

To restore the device via iTunes, follow the steps listed below…

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Connect your iPhone to the PC or Mac.
  3. Enable the backup when prompted.
  4. From the left sidebar, pick your device in iTunes.
  5. Click on Restore and then select Backup.

iTunes will now restore your device while making sure the old apps, music, photos and contacts remain intact. All jailbreak data as well as tweaks and jailbreak apps will be removed completely. This is a safe way to remove jailbreak.

Q: I want to restore my device to its original state. What should I do?

A: There is another way: from a stock IPSW file or from Apple’s servers. Your iPhone and iPad will be like new.

Guide:

To restore your iPhone or iPad as a new device, follow the steps listed below.

Backup on iCloud:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on iCloud.
  3. Tap on Storage & Backup iCloud Storage Backup in iPhone.
  4. Click on Backup Now.

iCloud Backup will start.

This backup will help you get back your apps, music and pictures. Now you can proceed to restoring your device as new:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Connect your iPhone.
  3. Select the device from the left sidebar.
  4. Click on Restore.
  5. Disable backup (Cancel, when prompted for the backing up option).

You will be connected to Apple Servers and the latest iOS firmware will be installed. Obviously, all the data will be erased and lost forever, but you can download it back from your iCloud backup.

If some iTunes Errors occur during the process of restoration, do the following:

  1. Download the IPSW file directly to your local disk.
  2. Click Shift+Restore and choose the IPSW file you downloaded. This will install the IPSW on your iPhone.

    • Hi, Jack.

You remove the jailbreak by restoring your device via iTunes. In fact, this is the only way to roll the things back. If you didn’t forget to back up your device in iTunes before running the jailbreak, you’re OK.

  • Hi, I restored my phone but I didn’t use iTunes, I restored it using the option found in settings-general-reset, but some apps keep closing (Fortnite as an example) an one of the apps downloaded by the jailbreak is still on the phone… do I have to restore via iTunes to get rid of jaiobreak completely? I don’t have WiFi so I can’t use my laptop to connect to iTunes, is there other way to restore my phone that way?

    • Hi, Carlos.

You can restore your iPhone only when you have a connection. There’s no way to roll back the jailbreak offline. We strongly recommend you to wait till you have a stable Wi-Fi or cable connection and follow our guidelines.

  • can I remove the jailbreak on my iphone 8 plus, I just backed-up my iphone in computer, but I run the jailbreak 1 month ago

    • Hi, James.

If you mean if the apps downloaded from “outside of the App Store”, they won’t work on restored iOS as they have no signed certificates.

  • I removed jailbreak but now my iPad and now I can’t get past the white Apple . I have attached iPad to the computer but it can’t find it to sync

    • Hi, Sandra.

Unfortunately, our guess is as good as yours, because you didn’t write what jailbreak tool you used. From the look of it, the boot system is damaged. Our only advice is to bring the iPad to the nearest certified maintenance center.

Indeed, a jailbroken iPhone is not recognised by iTunes, so you need to use a third-party app to back up your device and save data on your desktop or laptop.

      Good luck

  • Hello,
I have an Iphone xs running on version 13.2.2 and I want to jailbreak, but I have a question before I do. If I have a back up on itunes from before I was in the jailbroken state and I wanted to go back to stock IOS, can I restore to that back up and be unjailbroken?

    • Hi, Natalya.
To answer your question: No. First, you have to remove the jailbreak. You didn’t give us any details as to what jailbreak you’re going to use, but make sure, it features a remove tool. Only AFTER you remove your jailbreak, you can restore the iPhone from the backup.

The tool creates a system snapshot before jailbreaking, but if you want to be on the safe side, use iTunes or Google Drive for a backup.
